> Sean Sherk on training for Edgar and a possible Penn rematch
Thursday, May 21, 2009
Former UFC LW champion Sean Sherk talks about his preparation for UFC 98, and his thoughts on the upcoming title fight between BJ Penn and Kenny Florian.
I think Sherk should hang it up. His fights are almost always disappointing to watch. He never finishes... always to a decision. When he stuck to his ground fighting game, he would easily shoot in, take down, and get to a dominant position on the ground, but then he wouldn't do anything. I don't think Sherk knows how to finish fights. That is what the fans want to see, either by KO, TKO, or submission, FINISH THE FIGHT! None of this decision bullshit. No one cares how conditioned you are or what your training on or who your training with if you can't finish the fight. When I watch Sherk fights, I now expect it to be boring and look forward to the next fight. Your reach is too short to be standing up and boxing, and when you start getting picked apart in the stand-up, it is time to transition to something else, and you haven't done that in the last couple of fights. Sherk is not a smart fighter, he is a stubborn fighter. I am no longer a fan...

When the first UFC became available on VHS in the mid 90's, I became exposed to a sport that would change my life forever. Since then I've been a die-hard MMA fan, and some-time casual practitioner of various martial arts.
I love the sport for all its variety, excitement, and its universal appeal. I will continue to support and cover MMA on every level, around the globe, 24/7.
